The Difference of Citrus

Can I change shade
Transform smooth and spherical
Must I only be sweetened artificially
Even at my ripest I make others pucker
not followed by a kiss
but squinting of the eyes
tightening of cheeks
I don’t fill bellies
I don’t end hunger
My paradigm of sunshine, water and seed
result in sour, tart, uneasiness
Ah,
to be a comfort food,
eaten daily
In the nook table bowl,
not back fridge drawer
If our juices could be equal
If I had the chance
Yellow and green off the tree
but for my sanity
let me change in your hands
let me dream
let me be
the color and taste of orange
