What to do...

I turn 23 in May. Ugh. 23 is a boring and unimportant birthday age. My birthday just happens to fall on May 24, which is always memorial day weekend. It being a long weekend going places seem to be more expensive. I want to go somewhere for the three day weekend but I can't leave early since graduation is on the 22nd. I'm not sure what to do seeing as I'm trying to save money, but I would love to go somewhere - escape from Morgan Hill. What to do? I think I'll just wait till May rolls around and see if there are any cheap flights anywhere. Why must nyc be so far away?

The Reel Thing

Soooo, this is what I did in my TV Production class today. It's my overview of the Oscars and review of the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic. It's hard for me to watch it, I can't help but wonder if it's only me who thinks I sound nasal-y or if other people hear it too. Anyway, here is the second clip of the semester. My first "The Reel Thing" was on Slumdog Millionaire and didn't have the cool opening and lower thirds Jesus made. If I find it I'll put it up.

Also on a side note, not to be super superficial... but why must youtube pick a ridiculous still to have for this clip???

And the Oscar goes to...

Oscars on Sunday. Pretty much one of my favorite nights of the year. Very excited for Hugh Jackman, red carpet, acceptance speeches etc. This year I managed to see all the best pictures so here goes my list of who I think should win and who will win.

Best Picture
Should Win- Slumdog Millionaire
Will Win- Slumdog Millionaire
This movie was by far the most original and entertaining movie of the year. If someone mentions that Benjamin Button should win I'll have to slap a bitch. That movie was Forest Gump in reverse and I don't understand why there is so much hype, unless its for makeup. By the way, runner up should be Milk. Make sure you see that.

Best Actor

Update: Just watched The Wrestler. Rourke is great. Totally understand if he wins
.

Should Win: Sean Penn
Will Win: Micky Rourke
Honestly I didn't see The Wrestler. But I've heard that Hollywood loves comebacks and this would definitely be considered a comeback. Again I'm going to mention Sean Penn. One of the best performances I've ever seen him in. I think this performance is way better then even Mystic River, in which he won best actor. Also, sometimes Hollywood doesn't choose to let the same people win over and over. Apparently there is a lot of politics involved. By the way Frank Langella pulls out a kick ass over the phone monolouge as Dick. I'm very glad he got a nod.

Best Actress
Should Win: Kate Winslet
Will Win: Kate Winslet
SHE OWNS THIS. The girl has been nominated for an Oscar 6 times. Although this isn't my favorate performace of her, (I loved her in Eternal Sunshine) Kate in The Reader is phenominal. I couldn't imagine another actress being able to take on this role like Kate did. It's funny, she herself has mentioned that she seems to get nominated for whatever roll she's nude in. I guess when you got it flaunt it. And by some off chance she doesn't win, I'm rooting for the perfect Meryl Streep or newcomer Anne Hathway.

Best Supporting Actress
Should Win: Viola Davis
Will Win: Penelope Cruz
I thought Penelope was Vicky Christina Barcelona. If she wasn't in it, there would just be an annoying Scarlett Johannson bickering with an Spanish guy and a English girl. Viola Davis has a very small scene in Doubt, but she delivers. The woman's performance can convince you that her son should continue to be molested by a long nailed priest. Yup, shes that good. In fact every person in film delivers, go see it.

Best Supporting Actor
Should Win: Don't really care
Will Win: Heath Ledger
Honestly we all know Heath Ledger is going to win. Even though it's nice to honor him and his work in film, I wonder if he would still be winning if he was alive. None of the other nominees really got any press this year, which is why I think Ledger has it in the bag. However, Michael Shannon in Revolutionary Road was intreguing and matched the character in the book well. The acting in that whole movie was overlooked.

Best Director
Should Win: Danny Boyle
Will Win: Danny Boyle
Have you seen that movie? Well if you did then you know why he should win. Although props to Gus Van Sant. And even though I didn't think much of Benjamin Button, David Fincher did take on a epic type movie, so I guess props to him too.

And...
I really hope In Bruges wins for Best Original Screenplay, such a entertaining story and witty banter in that movie.
Also I have no idea what The Changling is doing being nominated in any of the catagories. Anglina is so flat and Clint Eastwood should have definitly campaigned for Gran Tornio instead.

So that's it, don't forget to watch on Sunday... I hope I'm not disapointed.

And that's how American's do it

Check out thisiswhyyourefat.com. It is beyond disgusting. And yet... there is a part of me that yearn for it. I think it's my American heritage/upbringing.

Loooove It
